Here's another take on the song spoilers, and if this is to be believed, TMZ has confirmed this one...

http://www.tmz.com/

What I find so interestingly weird is Chikezie's pick...

Apparently, TMZ had spies at the rehearsal and said they sang the following:

David Archuleta " Another Day in Paradise" Phil Collins
Luke Menard- " Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" Wham
Jason Castro -- Various Artists "Hallelujah"
David Hernandez -- Meatloaf "It's All Coming Back to Me Now"
Michael Johns -- Simple Minds "Don't You Forget About Me"
Danny Noriega -- Soft Cell "Tainted Love"
David Cook -- Lionel Richie "Hello"
Chikezie -- Whitney Houston "All the Man that I Need"

Wow! If this is Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", then I must applaud him.

Well, these choices suck even more than the songs listed in the "spoiler" thread, and THOSE songs REALLY REALLY sucked.

Actually, it's not that surprising for Chikezie; IIRC, I think he sang that song in his audition. (And yes, he changed the song's gender.)

I really liked Another Day in Paradise when it does by Brandy. Then I found out it was by Phil Collins and I just couldn't listen to it anymore. Hopefully David Archuleta makes it his own. I'm actually looking forward to David Hernandez's song now. It's one of my favorites!

Well, looks like TMZ was right: First Luke sings Wham!; now Seacrest says Archuleta "takes on Phil Collins". (And as I'm finishing this, he's singing ADIP--and nailing it as expected.)

However, some of them may need to recheck when their songs were released. Though "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" was first written in 1986 for Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell II (which wasn't released till 1993), it wasn't recorded by him till Bat Out Of Hell III in 2006. Though it was recorded by a group called Pandora's Box in 1989, the first notable version was Celine Dion's in 1996. So I wouldn't call that an '80's song.

Do you still feel the same Lemondrops, now that you've heard him sing?
I actually liked him. I have to agree with Simon, Jason keeps getting better and better.

Actually, I haven't heard him yet. Have to wait for YouTube clips which may not show up until hours later (the broadcast of the show in Britain is usually a few days late, and I didn't even bothered to find out if they are showing it this year).

It's just my opinion that it is a great song (some critics consider it one of the greatest songs ever written), and I was just amazed that someone in AI would even consider it because it is not a crowd pleasing song, rather it's an intelligent one. Whether the song is suitable for him or not is another matter, and something I look forward to finding out later. Many people have covered the song (like Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright, both of whose versions I don't really like), but none really is as good as the original.

Sorry, I forgot that you had to wait for the you tube posting. I've always loved this song, and honestly because of that, I'm never unhappy or too critical to hear anyone sing it. I think Jason did a fine job tonight, and if nothing else, a million people will be looking for it on you tube and discovering just what a beautiful song it is.

I just watched Jason's performance, and I'm in two mind about it. It's a competent performance of a cut-down version of Jeff Buckley's cover, but I do wonder if he should have done it differently, and I mean radically different. Jeff Buckley's version is too sparse for a singing competition I think, also it is too cut-down here for this version to work properly, Jason should probably have put in more variations (my favorite version is from the album Cohen Live which has somewhat different lyrics). I don't know what someone who has never heard the song before will make of it (hell, they might even think it's a religious song because so many verses have been cut out), so I'm a bit concerned.

Most surprisingly good performance of the night - David Cook reworking of Hello that avoided being thoroughly cheesy. Worst performance - Luke Menard, and I think he will surely be gone.
