Hey all - so I spend so much time working on DialIdol during the year I don't often have my pulse on everything going on outside of DialIdol. That's usually where you all keep me up-to-date and I appreciate it!
One thing I noticed this weekend while I was testing and I am wondering if anyone had heard anything about - phone numbers!
We all know the phone numbers to vote : 1-866-436-5701 through 5712.
Usually if you call these numbers outside a voting window they are busy and that is the case today.
However... This year there are 13 contestants. It appears that American Idol does not own 1-866-436-5713 (or 1-866-436-5700 for that matter). I'd advise you not to call either number as the content is not rated G.
This raises the question - what the heck are they going to do for the 13th contestant? Has anything heard anything? New numbers? New voting system entirely? A lone non-contiguous number? Are they frantically trying to buy the number? Am I just dialing wrong?

I didn't even think of that.
I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people that annoy me.

They will probably buy a different random, unrelated number since they will only need it for one week. Most people hit the redial number for their faves anyway, so it wouldn't put the contestant at a disadvantage.

yeah but if you can't remember numbers of who is what number anyway but you remember the person who went "last" will that mess up who votes for whom? What if they forget and think the last person who sang was #12?
I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people that annoy me.

If they were going to be fair about this quirk the contestants should draw straws to get stuck with the unknown phone number.
I believe the producers will stick it on someone they feel is expendable from a ratings stand point.

| If the person in the pimp spot sings will enough, the fans won't forget their number. Maybe they will have the numbers on their website and refer people to that if they forget. |

| I think if the pimp spot has the phone number, they will be okay because they will make a big deal of it right before voting is opened. Now if the first person to sing has a different number, ..... |

Can you imagine the lawsuits if kids dial the 00 and 13 numbers by the millions! haha What a mess. |

People are suggesting in other forums that AI may use a new set of numbers, or use the same twelve numbers with one contestant offered immunity from being voted off, or two contestants sharing one number. There are probably other suggestions, but we won't know what will happen until tonight.

two contestants sharing one number? Don't see that one happening.
I am thinking they will go with all new numbers tonight for one night only. The immunity thing would be cool, too, though!!

Apparently they plan to have a different number for the 13th one, according to both Peter Ligouri, the president of FOX Television, and Megan Michaels, one of the producers of the show. I'm not sure if this is going to work (would be very unfair to the one with the different number), or if indeed it is true (could it be just a ruse to spring the surprise tonight?).

Did you notice that Danny is not in the list of people to vote for tonight?????????? I WANT TO VOTE FOR HIM!!! HOW CAN I DO THAT???

Yikes! I don't want to call for phone sex!
It would suck if you are in the pimp spot which means people will be pissed if they are voting for Danny, Adam, or Lil. Maybe they'll put Anoop last. This will throw some people off kilter when voting if they have not heard of this news. The last person will also lose some votes.
